Practice Schedule
We encourage all swimmers to attend as many practices as possible. Swimmers who attend fewer than three practices per week will find that they have difficulty improving their strokes, speed, and endurance. Swimmers should arrive 10 minutes before practice for stretching and warm-up exercises.
Please routinely check the practice schedule on this website, and note that there are exceptions for holidays. Our season is divided into two practice sessions:
- Pre-Season: April 18 through June 3. Practices are in the afternoon.
- Summer Season: June 6 through July 10. Practices will be held every morning. We are still determining the feasibility of afternoon make-up practices. If your family needs them to participate please fill out this survey.

New Swimmers
New swimmers need to attend a tryout on either:
Monday, April 4th (4:15pm-5:30pm)
Thursday, April 7th (4:15pm-5:30pm)
Practice Groups
Swimmers are placed into groups based on ability and age. Returning Dolphins should attend the group they attended the previous year. Coaches may adjust a swimmer’s practice group up or down one practice group/age group level based upon the swimmer’s abilities and the number of swimmers in each practice group. Swimmer must attend their appropriate practice group. Attendance at a differing practice time requires prior approval from a coach. In addition to our regular swim groups we are bringing back the Minnows this season. If you child tries out for the team and is unable to complete a full lap without stopping at the coaches' discretion they can be placed in the Minnows group. The purpose of this group is to get the swimmer ready to move up to participate with the Squirts by the first dual meet.
Group | Age Range | Swimming Ability |
---|---|---|
Minnows | 6 & Under | Swimmers who cannot make it across the pool at tryouts but seem close enough that with additional help and lessons will be able to meet the requirements of the Squirt group by the first dual meet. |
Squirts | 6 & Under | Swimmers still learning all four strokes, but who can complete a full lap without stopping. |
Bottlenose | 7 - 9 | Swimmers still learning all four strokes, but who can complete a full lap without stopping. |
Spinners | 9 - 11 | Swimmers swim all four strokes legally and are able to swim 5x50 yards on the minute and 30 seconds. |
Fins | 11 - 12 | Swimmers can swim 50 yards of all four strokes legally, and can do flip turns. |
Flippers | 13 & Up | Swimmers working on speed and endurance. They can swim all four strokes and a set of 50 free on the minute or faster. |
